Hi, I’m Steven Phung, but most people call me SP because there are always someone has the same first name at work! When I was in grade 7, my dad gave me my first computer to help me learn FoxPro. That’s when I discovered how cool programming and technology could be—it changed my life forever!
In 2011, I moved to Australia to study Information Technology at UTS. My passion for design ignited during an advanced internet programming unit, which led me to take interactive design courses as electives. While working on my graduation project, I landed my first design job at a small software development firm. There, I designed and developed a point-of-sale system for fuel stations and an iOS app for an integrated paging system. That’s when I knew I wanted to focus on designing great products for people.
Since then, I’ve worked in all kinds of companies—small startups, big businesses, and even with solo entrepreneurs—to create products and services that people enjoy using.
Today, I'm a Product Designer at Optus, building the next generation of telco solutions powered by AI. Before that, I helped design the Property Platform at SiteMinder and earlier, as the sole designer at Plutora, where I helped pioneer tools in release management and value stream management (VSM).
